During periods of particular difficulty, it is easy for me to swing the pendulum between these two trains of thought: (1) “Everything is happening as it should and I will be okay and I just got to take it one day at a time and do what I can.” and (2) “This is awful and horrid and I am stuck and scared and mad and sad that things are not turning out the way I wrote them out in my journal in my mid-twenties when life seemed all roses and every damn dream was possible.”

As crazy-making as it may be, the going between these two seeming extremes is such a natural human experience, particularly when life has turned out differently than we ever thought it would, or that we visualized and worked on manifesting for years, the life we worked towards in practical and actionable steps, the one we worked hard for… and it turns out, it is the same life that turned some sharp corner unexpectedly and all we can do is hang on for dear life and pray we don’t fall off the face of the cliff around the bend.

We want it all. We want the partner of our dreams. The career that fulfills and provides and grows us. A house that is a home. Happiness that is not fleeting. Peace that is unwavering…

But how? How can we have it all?

Before you get all in a tizzy about back-to-school, check your energy around it.
Are you filled with joy and excitement for “bouquets of sharpened pencils” (You’ve Got Mail reference) or are you filled with dread for what you’ll wear and who you will impress in the months ahead?
Is back to school a happy moment for you? Or one filled with anxiety?

The experience of parenting can range from deep joy and elation to deep confusion and frustration. We sometimes hear that "it brings out the best in us” and sometimes that “it brings out the worst in us.” Conscious parenting, as a concept, provides a shift in perspective on the function of parenting: It focuses on a higher state of awareness connected to our spiritual existence, which in turn creates a new paradigm for connection and healing with our children.
